Making the web a better place for everyone

Back in December, we announced our intention to adopt the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop to create better web compatibility for our customers, and less fragmentation of the web for all web developers. Now we’re ready to show you what we’ve been working on, and invite you to come along on our journey.

Investing in open source

We’ve also started making contributions back to Chromium in areas like accessibility, touch, ARM64 and others. Our plan is to continue working in Chromium rather than creating a parallel project. We’re working directly with the teams at Google, and we’re looking forward to working even more with the open source community. To learn more about our contributions, see our Microsoft Edge “Explainers” on GitHub and check out our source code release.

Cross platform browsing

Microsoft Edge Insider channels are ready to be synced with your Microsoft Edge mobile app. You can install the preview builds on all supported versions of Windows or macOS, and explore syncing capabilities with the current version of the Microsoft Edge mobile app available for iOS and Android devices. We are excited to get your feedback and suggestions as we continue to improve the user and cross platform experience when using Microsoft Edge.

4 – Visual Studio Online

Microsoft has long said that it wants to meet developers where they are. While Visual Studio Online isn’t likely to replace the desktop-based IDE for most developers, it’s an easy way for them to make quick changes to code that lives in GitHub, for example, without having to set up their IDE locally. As long as they have a browser, developers will be able to get their work done.

Managed environments  for any project

Whether you’re working on a long-term project, a  short-lived feature branch, or want to quickly review a pull request, Visual Studio Online can help you be more productive by providing a fully configured development environment in minutes. By pointing to a Git repo, Visual Studio Online sets up everything you need to focus on being productive:
